When you face challenges it can feel like you’re spinning in place about what to do, but not getting anywhere. You’re stuck and it can feel disempowering.

However, the quickest way to get unstuck and decide the best course of action is to reframe your thinking. Reframing is a core fundamental of neuro-linguistic programming that can help you get past the fear, anger, sadness, and other negative emotions surrounding a problem or challenge.

When you reframe or think about something in a new way, you enable your own critical thinking so you can come up with different solutions and outcomes. This allows you to switch from a disempowered state to an empowered one! It also helps you be decisive and take action.

How to quickly reframe your thinking about a problem and get unstuck using NLPs Satir Matrix.

Think about a problem you are facing, then ask yourself the following four questions below and fill in the blanks.

  1. What will happen if I do _______________________?
  2. What won’t happen if I do _______________________?

3. What will happen if I don’t _______________________?

4. What won’t happen if I don’t _______________________?

For Example Problem: I don’t like my job.

1. What will happen if I do quit my job?

2. What won’t happen if I do quit my job?

3. What will happen if I don’t quit my job?

4. What won’t happen if I don’t quit my job?

How to reframe meaning

Another way you can reframe is by reframing negative thoughts into a more useful and empowering way of thinking.

Instead of thinking: “I can’t do this thing that you ask of me!”

Ask: “What CAN I do instead?”

Instead of thinking: “A really bad thing has just happened to me?”

Ask: “What MUST you do about this thing today?”

As you can see, you are never limited in your ability to solve a problem, you are only limited by your negative thoughts and thinking. Thus why reframing is so important, it’s a fundamental principle of change. When you reframe, you redetermine the outcomes of a problem or situation and switch from a victim mindset to an empowered one!
